5 Ways to Increase Your Car’s Value Pre-Auction

When selling a vehicle, whether it’s a classic or an everyday vehicle, you’re likely going to want to get as much money as possible out of it. Naturally, a well-kept vehicle is going to sell for much more than one that is physically damaged and neglected under the hood. Though you can always attempt to clean up your vehicle at the last second, it’s most beneficial to start the TLC from the moment you decide to purchase the car. Whether you’re a new car owner or trying to prep your car for an auction, here are some tips for increasing your car’s value.

1. Clean It

This is an easy one! Before selling your vehicle, detail your car or have it done for you. However, don’t stop there. If you let someone else detail it for you, go over it with a fine-tooth comb to make sure the vehicle has been properly taken care of. Take this to the next level by keeping your car in good condition from the moment you get it. Wash and detail it frequently and try to avoid leaving signs of that burger you may or may not have eaten while driving down-I-75.

2. Maintenance

Consistent maintenance is going to be your car’s best bet of maintaining value. Cleaning out the inside alone doesn’t constitute a well-maintained car. Make sure

  • Oil and coolant levels are optimal
  • Air filter is clean
  • Tires are in good condition
  • Transmission fluid is good
  • Brakes are in full, working order

These are just a few things that should be taken care of. Ideally, you will have diligently taken care of the vehicle and done the above items consistently.

3. Documentation

Documentation is one of the smartest things you can do to increase the value of your car. This includes any paperwork you received when the car was bought, the car’s previous history if bought used, information from your car insurance company, and bonus points for detailed documentation on vehicle repairs and maintenance. If the vehicle has been well taken care of and you can prove it, the value goes up significantly.

4. Maintain the Original Parts

Especially when it comes to classic cars, potential buyers lose interest when they realize the car is made of mismatched parts. As you maintain your vehicle, do everything you can to maintain those original parts on your classic vehicle as these can increase the value exponentially.

5. Emphasize Details

It’s not all about the flashy parts of the car. You would be surprised how little details make a difference. Chipped paint, cracked rubber around windows and doors, and small dents are all things that take away from the beauty of your car – and how much you’ll get for it!
